What is Wellness?

We know we all desire to be well, but what does that mean?

Wellness is more than the absence of disease. It is a state of mental, physical, and social wellbeing. Wellness is the process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is not about eliminating carbs or fats or fad diets. It is not about going to extremes in any aspect of our lives. It is about finding balanced healthy decisions that become a part of our lifestyles. It is an ongoing process. It is about living in a way that honors our mind, body, and spirit.

The most important part of this process is giving our bodies the proper fuel. We must first nurture the physical self to have the energy to care for other aspects of self. Our food choices are vital. We also know that when we are stressed and tired our bodies may not use the nutrients we give them in an optimal way. We will continue to learn and become aware of how we can move toward wellness as a process together. While much of our discussion will be on nutrition and food as medicine, we will explore many aspects of wellness.

The major health problems in our society are due to lifestyle. It is empowering to know we can control many of the factors for optimal health. This blog is about doing that together.
